The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged impending attack on schools in the state, assuring residents that there is no credible intelligence indicating any imminent threat.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command reacted to a viral security alert circulating on social media and messaging platforms, which claimed that criminal elements were planning attacks and kidnappings in schools across Lagos.
The police said investigations conducted so far have not uncovered any evidence to support the claims, urging parents, school administrators and residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the strengthening of security measures around schools and other sensitive locations across the state.
"The Command wishes to emphasise that Lagos State remains safe and secure. At present, there is no verified intelligence suggesting any planned attack on schools or any other public institution within the state," the statement noted.
Despite the absence of a confirmed threat, the police said proactive steps have been taken to safeguard lives and property. Security personnel have been deployed to schools, strategic facilities and critical infrastructure as part of preventive measures aimed at maintaining public safety.
The Command stressed that security remains a collective responsibility and called on residents to remain vigilant while cooperating with law enforcement agencies. Members of the public were encouraged to report any suspicious activities through designated emergency channels.
The police further warned against the circulation of false security alerts, noting that misinformation can trigger unnecessary panic and undermine public confidence.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting residents and ensuring that Lagos continues to remain one of the safest states in the country.
