In a bold affirmation of its commitment to human capital development, the Kogi State Government has revealed that it has expended over ₦1 billion on the payment of external examination fees for students in public primary and secondary schools within the state—an investment made in just over a year.
The disclosure was made by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah, during the 2025 Blueprint Impact Award Series held in Abuja. Isah stood in for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who was conferred with the Governor of the Year in Human Capital Development award at the event.
Highlighting the state’s aggressive push in education and healthcare reforms, Isah described the award as a validation of the administration’s strategic and targeted investments across key sectors. He said the funds allocated to education have triggered a surge in enrolment and retention in public schools, leading to Kogi recording the lowest number of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria—a status backed by official national statistics.
“This is not just about spending money; it’s about investing in the future of our children and ensuring no child is left behind,” Isah said. “Our approach has been deliberate and data-driven, and the results are evident across the state.”
In a broader demonstration of the government’s human capital agenda, Isah also disclosed that the state is currently revitalising over 300 primary healthcare centres across its 21 local government areas. This initiative is designed to bridge healthcare gaps at the grassroots and reinforce the administration’s vision of a healthier and more productive population.
“The Governor remains steadfast in his mission to build a knowledge-based and healthy society,” Isah added. “We see education and health as twin pillars of progress, and the recognition by Blueprint confirms we are on the right trajectory.”
