tudents of the University of Ibadan staged a peaceful protest on Wednesday in response to an 82-day power outage at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

The demonstration, which commenced early in the morning, stemmed from the students' frustration over the prolonged electricity disruption at UCH, the teaching hospital for the university's medical students.

The outage, which began in 2024, was reportedly caused by unpaid debts owed by UCH to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

Bolaji Aweda, President of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, led the protest and highlighted the negative impact the situation has had on students.

“We are protesting because of the ongoing situation, which directly affects our students,” Aweda stated.

“For 82 days, UCH has been without power due to its inability to settle outstanding bills with IBEDC. The electricity company insists that the hospital must clear its debts before power can be restored,” he explained.
