Gbajabiamila Urges Collective Support for Education as Materials Reach 8,000 Surulere Students

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on stakeholders and well-meaning Nigerians to support government initiatives aimed at repositioning the country’s education sector, stressing that meaningful reform requires collective responsibility.

Gbajabiamila made the appeal on Wednesday during the distribution of educational materials to students across 23 secondary schools in Surulere, Lagos.

The outreach programme benefited several public schools in the area, including Ajigbeda Secondary School, Iyun; Stadium High School, Iyun; Surulere Girls High School, Empire; Akintan Secondary School; Gbaja Girls Secondary School; and New Era Girls Secondary School.

Thousands of learning materials—including textbooks, mathematical sets, school bags, and exercise books—were distributed to students as part of efforts to improve learning conditions and reduce the financial burden on parents.

Represented at the event by the member representing Surulere Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives (Nigeria), Fouad Laguda, the Chief of Staff emphasized that education remains the bedrock of national development.

According to him, government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of transforming the sector, hence the need for collaboration among public institutions, private organisations, and community stakeholders.

Gbajabiamila explained that the intervention forms part of his longstanding commitment to improving education in Surulere, an initiative that began during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives and has continued in his current role within the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He disclosed that no fewer than 8,000 students benefited from the latest distribution exercise.

The Chief of Staff also urged students to justify the gesture by remaining focused on their academic pursuits and striving for excellence in both internal and external examinations.

Also speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Muiz Dosunmu, commended Gbajabiamila for his sustained investment in education and community development in the constituency. He encouraged students to make effective use of the materials provided.

In separate remarks, the Principal of Stadium Secondary School, Christiana Badejo, and a student representative from Ajigbeda Secondary School, Aisha Jimoh, expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a significant support for students and a motivation to achieve academic excellence.

Meanwhile, the member representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, also represented the Chief of Staff at some of the beneficiary schools during the distribution exercise.
