Abeokuta, Nigeria – The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has officially matriculated 6,356 students for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking the highest student intake in nearly four decades.
The announcement was made by Olasunkanmi Olajide, Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, in a statement released on Thursday, 19 November 2025. The matriculation ceremony coincided with the university’s 13th Commencement Lecture, held at the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde described the record admission as a major milestone in FUNAAB’s 38-year history. He commended the growing confidence of parents and prospective students in the institution while urging new entrants to uphold discipline, dress decently, maintain a minimum of 70% class attendance, and adhere strictly to university regulations.
“FUNAAB remains a training ground for future leaders,” Prof. Kehinde said. “Students must uphold discipline, dress appropriately, maintain academic commitment, and respect all institutional rules. Misconduct will not be tolerated, and Student Union engagement will follow principles of dialogue and responsible leadership.” He further assured the students that their rights would be protected.
The 13th Commencement Lecture, themed “Future Leaders of Character in Agriculture: Building Capacity Today for National and Global Impact Tomorrow,” was delivered by Prof. Subuola Fasoyiro of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Obafemi Awolowo University. Prof. Fasoyiro challenged students to cultivate character, competence, and capacity as foundational pillars for effective leadership.
Highlighting essential qualities for shaping the future, she emphasised vision, strategic thinking, courage, emotional intelligence, integrity, teamwork, and resilience. She also identified the “six Cs” of leadership—clarity, commitment, capacity, character, consistency, and contribution—as critical traits for national development.
“The future is predictable,” Prof. Fasoyiro said. “As students, you must position yourself through discipline and continuous learning. When you take care of your character, it will help you safeguard your reputation.”
