FCE (Technical) Umunze Honours Student for Outstanding Performance in National COEASU Scholarship Contest

Umunze, Anambra State – October 14, 2025: The Management of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, has honoured Miss Fidelis Chinyere Blessing, a second-year student of Fine and Applied Arts, for her exceptional performance in the recently concluded Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) National Scholarship Competition.

Blessing emerged as the first runner-up at the national level, scoring 46 points—just one mark shy of the top position. Her remarkable performance earned her a special recognition and cash reward during a reception organised in her honour at the Provost’s Office on Tuesday.

Before advancing to the national finals, Blessing had distinguished herself as the Best NCE Student in the South East Zone, winning a ₦500,000 cash prize and securing a place at the grand finale held at the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) Headquarters, Abuja. She outperformed peers from institutions such as the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu; Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe; Abia State College of Education, Arochukwu; Enugu State College of Education (Technical); and Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education, Ihite Uboma.

Speaking at the event, the Provost, Professor Theresa Obumneme Okoli, praised Blessing’s achievement, describing it as a testament to the College’s dedication to nurturing excellence, creativity, and intellectual discipline.

“Your performance is a reflection of the College’s unwavering commitment to quality teaching and learning. You have made us proud and set a fine example for your colleagues,” Prof. Okoli stated.

She reaffirmed the management’s resolve to continue recognising and celebrating students whose academic achievements bring honour to the institution.

The COEASU Chairman, FCET Umunze Chapter, Dr. Sunny Okeke, commended Blessing’s accomplishment, noting that the competition was highly competitive and rigorously monitored. He said her success had further enhanced the academic image of the College. Accompanied by the Chapter Secretary, Mr. Ndubuisi Onyemechara, Dr. Okeke lauded both the student and the institution for their exemplary representation.

The College Librarian, Dr. Agada Samson Arome, applauded COEASU for sustaining the scholarship initiative, describing it as a vital platform that promotes academic excellence across Nigeria’s Colleges of Education. Similarly, the Dean of the School of Fine and Applied Arts, Mr. Chidi Uzor, praised Blessing’s dedication and passion for learning, calling her “a shining example of artistic and academic brilliance.”

Other key officials present at the reception included the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Bessie C. Nkah, and the Bursar, Mr. Ethelbert Echedo.
