The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has cautioned newly admitted students against excessive use of social media, warning that it could negatively affect their academic performance and personal development.
Delivering an address to fresh students during an official university programme, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that while social media can be a useful tool for learning and communication, misuse often leads to distraction, poor time management and declining academic focus.
He urged students to prioritize their studies, develop disciplined study habits and make productive use of their time on campus. According to him, university education demands commitment, responsibility and the ability to balance academic work with extracurricular activities.
The Vice-Chancellor further encouraged students to take advantage of FUOYE’s academic resources, engage meaningfully with lecturers and uphold the institution’s values of excellence, integrity and innovation.
He reminded the new intakes that their success at the university would be determined largely by the choices they make, noting that moderation and self-control are essential in navigating campus life in the digital age.
The address formed part of the university’s ongoing efforts to guide students toward academic success and responsible conduct as they begin their higher education journey.
