A Federal High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Mr. Olaniran Satiregun, Rector of the International College of Administration, Science and Technology, to seven years imprisonment for offering unapproved academic programmes and defrauding unsuspecting students.
The conviction, delivered by Justice Anyalewa Onoja-Alapa, followed a criminal prosecution filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The court ruled that Satiregun was guilty on all counts, and ordered that he serve his sentence without the option of a fine.
In a statement released Tuesday by ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, the Commission revealed that the college, under Satiregun’s leadership, had been admitting students into unaccredited programmes—namely Nursing, Public Health, and Computer Science—between 2019 and 2021. The institution was only licensed by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to offer four accredited courses.
Lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Adesina Raheem, informed the court that one of the victims, Onmonya Daniel Ogah, paid ₦110,000 in admission and tuition fees for a fake three-year programme, believing it to be legitimate.
Delivering her judgment, Justice Onoja-Alapa condemned the deliberate deception of students, describing it as a violation of public trust and a threat to the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered that all fees collected for the illegal programmes be refunded to affected students. Furthermore, the institution has been directed to immediately discontinue all unapproved programmes and operate strictly within its NBTE-accredited offerings.
The ICPC welcomed the ruling as a victory for educational accountability and a warning to other institutions operating outside regulatory frameworks.
