Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Vice Chancellor of the university, shared that the institution will confer Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees on 960 graduates. The breakdown includes 299 Postgraduate Diploma recipients, 2 Master of Philosophy (M-Phil) graduates, 3 M-Phil/PhD graduates, 536 Master's degree holders, and 120 PhD graduates.
Regarding the convocation ceremony, the VC highlighted a special event: the Convocation Lecture, titled "Technological Innovations: A Panacea to Food Insecurity," which will be delivered by Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, the Honorable Minister of Interior. This will take place on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium, FUTA.
Three distinguished Nigerians will be awarded honorary Doctoral degrees in recognition of their outstanding contributions in various fields. The recipients are:
- Professor Daniel O. Olukoya – Doctor of Management Science
- Mr. Ayorinde O. Ogunruku – Doctor of Management Science
- Mr. Joel Ogunsola – Doctor of Information and Communication Technology
In addition, three retired senior academics were appointed Professors Emeriti, in line with university traditions. The professors are:
- Professor Adebisi M. Balogun (Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology)
- Professor Emmanuel Akinyele Olusegun Laseinde (Department of Animal Production and Health)
- Professor Labunmi Lajide (Department of Chemistry)
Prof. Oladiji also praised the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his interventions in the development of the university, particularly the approval of the State Specialist Hospital in Akure for clinical training of MBBS students.
As a University of Technology, the institution has made notable contributions to the community and beyond, including promoting food security through the cultivation of tomatoes and bell peppers, producing low-sugar bread for diabetics and weight-watchers, and equipping students with entrepreneurial skills. Engineering students have created interlocking blocks for construction, and final-year students participated in the "Clean Akure Campaign," showcasing the university’s commitment to solving local challenges.
