Governor Akeredolu, Ife Monarch storm OAU

Faculty of social sciences Obafemi Awolowo University held her  2018 Lecture and award ceremony  on the 18th of October at Oduduwa Hall. The lecture was graced by the incumbent Governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu as the chief speaker of  the ceremony.
 The lecture themed,  Restructuring of Nigeria State: Implication and Development was designed to tackle the challenges in the country. The lecture was also attended by dignitaries and important personalities in the society including the Ife Monarch, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja 2 Ooni of Ife. Also prensent at the lecture was  the school Vice Chancellor Professor Eyitope  Ogunbodede,the chief host of the event, the school PRO Olarenwaju Abiodun , Prof, Funmi Toguno Bickersteth the chairperson, The former Board chairman Ondo state water cooperation chief Dapo Filani,  Honourable Sunday Ifedayo Abegunde , Secretary to the state Government Ondo state, Honourable Richard Olufemi  Bamisile, former speaker, Ekiti State house of assembly,  the host Prof. M.A.O Aluko, Dean faculty of Social Sciences, The Dean of Students Affairs Prof. Isiaka Aransiola, the University Busar, HODS and all other invited guest.
The school vice Chancellor Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede while addressing the audience   commended the support  the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu  has provided the institutions in recent times.
Prof, Funmi Toguno Bickersteth the chairperson,  who was a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University briefly talked on  restructuring and development  in the country. She referred to this as something that can be achieved gradually  through the help and efforts of the people.
The Guest lecturer, His Excellency,Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, the executive Governor of Ondo state spoke on  Restructuring of the Nigeria State: Implications for Development. He addressed the audience by appreciating the faculty of social sciences, all invited guest and the students. Governor
Akeredolu when presenting his lecture, spoke on the concern of security, politics, education, agriculture of the country which are the key sector to be restructured and developed.
While speaking on employment and mode of production in the country, the guest  speaker added that agriculture provides more job opportunities than any sector in the country, but government and peoples attitude towards it have not been encouraging. And it has really affected the employment rate of the country. Tracing back the restructuring that has taken place in this country, the speaker retraced the constitution right from 1922 till date and added that only Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo saw to the achievement of a better restructured Nigeria. “Awolowo had a greater contributions to the country…” the speaker said.
In explaining the main challenge of not having a well restructured government, the Governor added that language is the main barrier for not having a unified government. And if we continue to use English language leaving behind our indigenous language, it would be difficult to have a well  restructured and developed government.
” For a better restructuring, political actors, government officials should not see the citizens as their subject but as equal members of the society”
The Governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu recommended that religion or ethnic background should not be an hindrance to citizenship. He added that that development of the country depends on the people as  political actors works for themselves and not for the people. The country must respond to state of origin,citizenship and state of residence  must be promoted than ethnicity or religious background .The Governor also recommended that the youth should be trained to tackle the challenges in the country and they must be encouraged to eat what they produce.
The chairperson, Prof Funmi Togonu – Bickersteth the Pro-Chancellor Federal University Gusua also added that for  restructuring to take effects, we must be organized, coordinated and unified. She added that everyone must join the social reconstruction to better and develop the nationhood. She said that the change needed for reconstruction must be a  coordinated and a unified one and  all plans must be able to cater for peoples need. She added that development comes in when its has positive impact on the people.

lauded the  speech given by the Governor on  restructuring  and equally informed him that Ondo state students need bursary and  scholarships in order to make  education more affordable for his masses. The students association president also enjoined the Governor to students needs.
