The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) announced it would proceed with its planned nationwide protest and picketing of the Federal Ministry of Finance if around 50 percent of their five months of withheld salaries is not paid by the end of the two-week ultimatum given to the Federal Government. The ultimatum, which began on October 30, will end on November 13.
NAAT President Ibeji Nwokoma confirmed that members received only one month of the three months of pay initially expected. Meanwhile, a circular from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) instructed NASU branch chairmen in universities and inter-university centers to suspend the strike for one month, allowing time for the government to pay an additional month of withheld salaries, as agreed.
The government previously committed to paying 50 percent of the four months’ withheld salaries, of which one month was paid over the weekend.
The suspension circular from JAC commended members’ steadfastness throughout the ongoing strike, which began on October 28, 2024, in response to the government’s lack of action on members’ demands. It noted that several intensive meetings were held with Federal Government officials, including the Ministers of Education and Finance, and other senior officials, to address the outstanding issues.
