The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted official approval to the School of Nursing, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, to commence a full-time Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.NSc) degree programme in affiliation with the University of Ibadan (UI).

The approval, conveyed in a letter dated November 6, 2025, marks a significant milestone in UCH’s academic advancement and reaffirms its position as a leading institution in healthcare training and professional education in Nigeria.

The new programme is designed to enhance nursing education and clinical practice, providing students with the opportunity to obtain a university degree while undergoing hands-on professional training within the country’s foremost teaching hospital.

Reacting to the development, the Principal, School of Nursing, UCH, Dr. (Mrs.) Adenike Olaniyi, described the NUC’s approval as “a dream fulfilled” and a major leap forward for both the institution and the nursing profession in Nigeria.

“Students will now have the opportunity to pursue a prestigious nursing degree right within the walls of the University College Hospital, Ibadan,” she said.

Dr. Olaniyi commended the UCH management team, led by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, for their steadfast commitment to meeting NUC’s academic and infrastructural requirements. She added that the programme would align the school’s curriculum with international standards, equipping graduates with advanced theoretical knowledge and world-class clinical competencies.

In his remarks, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, CMD of UCH, expressed delight over the development, emphasizing that it represents the culmination of years of planning, dedication, and collaboration between UCH, the University of Ibadan, and other key stakeholders.
