During an engagement meeting in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), outlined the modalities of the student loan program. He explained that students must create an online profile as a prerequisite for application. The loan is interest-free and features no fixed repayment period, making it both accessible and flexible for beneficiaries.
Borno State Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting students in accessing the loan. He announced the appointment of a dedicated desk officer for NELFUND in the state, who will collaborate with the Special Adviser to Governor Zulum on Higher Education.
Wakilbe emphasized that this initiative aims to guide students through the application process while ensuring they fully understand the loan’s benefits. Describing it as a low-risk grant, he encouraged all eligible students to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their educational pursuits.
