The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has been thrown into turmoil following the announcement of a major hike in tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic session, sparking protests and intense debates across campus.

The new fee structure reflects an increase of between **100% and 120%** across several faculties, a move students have branded as unjustifiable and oppressive. What began as a management decision has now snowballed into a full-scale resistance led by the **Students’ Union Government (SUG)**.

### Students’ Union Fights Back

In a strongly worded declaration, SUG President **Comrade Adio James** and his cabinet, known as the *Better Days Cabinet*, condemned the increment as “a brutal attack on the future of Nigerian youths.”

They vowed to resist the policy by every lawful means, insisting that the hike amounts to “a death sentence to the aspirations of countless students.” The union further argued that education is a fundamental right and should remain affordable for all, regardless of economic background.

### The Hard Numbers

The breakdown of the new charges has intensified outrage:

* **Engineering & Environmental Design:** ₦250,000 (fresh students)
* **Communication, Media & Computing:** ₦235,500 (fresh students)
* **Arts, Education & Social Sciences:** ₦200,000 (fresh students)
* **Returning Students:** From previous ₦60,000 or less, now increased to between ₦120,000 and ₦150,000 depending on faculty.

For many families, the revised fees are financially unattainable, raising fears of mass dropouts if the policy is enforced.

The standoff between management and students sets the stage for what could become one of the most significant campus struggles in FUOYE’s history, as the union mobilizes support against the new policy.
