Ex-Education Secretary, Five Others Abducted in Fresh Kaduna Attack

Armed men have abducted six persons, including a former Education Secretary, in Kufana town, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 13, has thrown the community into renewed fear as the victims were whisked away to an undisclosed location.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed that among those seized was Mr. Samuel Dangiwa, a respected community leader and former Education Secretary.

Local residents said military personnel and community youths swiftly mobilised to pursue the abductors in an attempt to secure the victims’ release. As of press time, search and rescue operations were still underway, though no official statement had been issued by security authorities.

The attack underscores the persistent security challenges confronting Kaduna State, particularly in Kajuru Local Government Area, which has been repeatedly plagued by bandit raids, kidnappings, and communal unrest. Security trackers warn that rural communities in Southern Kaduna remain especially vulnerable, with frequent incidents leading to loss of lives, forced displacement, and disruption of farming and education.

Kidnappings for ransom continue to pose a grave threat across Nigeria, with the United Nations and civil society organisations warning that such crimes erode community resilience, weaken education systems, and worsen humanitarian conditions.

The abduction of Mr. Dangiwa, a figure closely associated with education administration, highlights the growing risks faced by teachers, students, and education officials in rural areas, raising fresh concerns about the impact of insecurity on human capital development.

While authorities have repeatedly pledged to stem the tide of abductions, security analysts insist that stronger intelligence networks, deeper community engagement, and more coordinated military operations remain crucial to reversing the trend.
